In the long history of the electronic revolution, farming, gardening and homesteading is one area that has seen very little change. If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it- right? Homesteading and Farming Apps can make your life easier.
What Are Farm and Homestead Apps?
One daunting task every homesteader loathes, but understands its necessity, is paperwork and record keeping. Busy hands often make forgetful minds and record keeping becomes a game of memory recall.

We started using an online app called Farmrexx. After searching around for one that suited small hobby farmers, we decided on this one, It allows us to add any kind of livestock into the system and record treatments, joining, births and anything else that we need to record on the farm. We looked at a lot of others but most were too expensive for us as hobby farmers. The other reason was that we could add any kind of livestock into the software. Also, we could record expenses that were related to the farm.

I use Evernote a lot. I have "notebooks" of main farm categories. Then I start new notes under each notebook topic to keep notes on each thing. You can add audio, links, and photos as well. I know I am barely scratching the surface of usablility. I first learned about it on tutorial videos on YouTube and it was an excellent way to learn. I really like it. I started using it for my kids homeschool and now I have expanded to lots of areas in my life! The best part is I can access it from my phone, tablet, and laptop. My family can get on their device and add notes as they need to or look up info.

Thought you might be interested to know we developed a new app just for homsteaders called SmartSteader! It’s a homestead management app, kinda like a homestead binder for your phone. It’s used for keeping track of expenses, production, and notetaking/journaling. We’re constantly adding new features (like income tracking which will be in the next version in a few weeks).
SmartSteader can be used for any area of production on the homestead such as laying hens, dairy cows, dairy goats, meat chickens, pigs, beef, rabbits, etc… We’ve been keeping a paper based homestead binder for years and this has been a game changer being able to have our “binder” with us wherever we go! (And not to have to do anymore math!) The app is for iOS & Android and instantly syncs between devices (even across platforms). All data is securely stores so no more worrying about losing records! Needless to say, we're pretty excited to have it on our own homesteads and hopefully it will help other folks out too!

I really like the concept of this app. It’s simplistic as far as adding the data. I think what would make it top notch is if breeding/medical/Photos could be incorperated for homesteader who breed and raise to full term. And opt when the sold, butchered or rebreed.
Ive been doing a lot of research on apps for record keeping and the one thing I cant seem to find is one app that can cover all aspects in which we vernture to. From breeding and hatching Chick and Quail to lamb/cafe mecdical and vaccinations.
Just fruit for though, if there is something I have not explore please point me in that direction.

My pleasure. Yes, in the world of technology- I never thought to look for apps to help us. Thank God, someone thought of it. The topic still seems a bit behind and the choices are few but with the growing popularity, maybe that will change in the near future?
