Are you one of the growing population whose simple life means a life on wheels?

Thousands of retirees (and families) are selling the farm (literally) and taking their homestead to go.

If you desire the freedom that RV life has to offer but still want to Homestead, just follow my tips on How to Homestead in a RV or Camper.

How to Homestead in a RV or Camper

How to Homestead in a RV or Camper- Be A Steward Of The Land

Homesteaders respect the earth and the land, from the dirt to the animals that roam on it.
They realize we can get all we need from the land and  do their best to take care of it and respect it.

Use It Up, Wear It Out, Make Do or Do Without

Most campsites and RV parks offer recycling on site, if not, take your recycling to the local dump.

RV living doesn’t have to mean Styrofoam plates and plastic forks.

You can use the same plates you did at home or buy biodegradable ones.

Incorporate Green Living on the Go.

How to be a good steward? Start with the 5 R’s (yes 5- not 3).

  • Refuse– Refuse to buy something that has a one time use.
  • Repurpose– Whatever you do buy, try to find another purpose for it once you are done.
  • Reduce- Think twice before buying. Buy reusable gift bags once instead of wrapping paper.
  • Reuse- Buy used items that look new. Give your unwanted items to someone that would appreciate them or have a yard sale.
  • Recycle- As a last resort, recycle. This should be the last step you take with products you buy. Don’t purchase a convenience product with the mindset “I can recycle it later” .
Remember there is no “away” , when people throw “away” it is just being relocated.
So do your best at reducing the amount of items you need to relocate.

Being out in nature, you have the perfect opportunity to protect the land and appreciate all it has to offer.

How to Homestead In A RV or Camper- Cook From Scratch

Nothing is better than cooking in the great outdoors.

RV living doesn’t have to mean hot dogs and fast food.

You can still make butter, smoke your own bacon (wont the neighbors be jealous?) and ferment your own Kraut.

Take back your meal time (and your health), one recipe at a time and start cooking from scratch.

Homestead in a RV or Camper- Make It Yourself & Learn A Skill

If you are living on a fixed income or budget, learning to do things yourself is a vital part of financial survival.

Being able to do something yourself without calling a specialist or going to the store is not only empowering but it could also save you thousands.

Once you perfect your skill or trade, maybe you can meet some of the other campers and share your craft?

Homestead in a RV or Camper- Compact Gardening

Don’t have a yard to grow a garden? No worries, I’ve gotcha back jack!

So you packed up and moved to the great outdoors, eh?

That doesn’t mean you have to say goodbye to garden fresh cucumbers or sugar snap peas.
Believe it or not, most of fruits and veggies you grew in your garden back home, you can grow right in a container.

From sweet potatoes to homegrown tomatoes, RV and Camper patio gardens are all the rave!

In addition, if you’re going to be at a campground for a while, you can talk to the Camp host about organizing a campsite farmers market or even host a contest for biggest campground tomato!

Homestead in a RV or Camper- Have A Homesteaders Heart

Tracy, from Our Simple Homestead created The Homesteaders Heart Creed and I wanted to share it with you

There is a common creed that all homesteaders live by no matter where they live or what profession they work.
The creed that many use to define a homesteader’s heart.

The Homesteaders Heart Creed

  1. Honor old-fashion skills.
  2. Live a self-sufficient lifestyle.
  3. Resist consumerism.
  4. Be good stewards of the land.
  5. Reuse, recycle and make do.
  6. Shop local.
  7. Share with others.
  8. Pass on homesteading skills.

Although there are not any established set of rules for homesteading.
The one thing we all can count on is homesteaders across the country care about living an authentic homesteading lifestyle, not complicated by today’s fast-paced, technology laden lifestyle.

You don’t have to have land or livestock to homestead, do it right where you’re at with what you have.
